Join Us at the Black Women in Clinical Research Conference in October 2025

Looking to get involved in clinical research as a career or a participant? The 3rd annual Black Women in Clinical Research Conference is returning from October 24th to October 26th, 2025.

Black Women in Clinical Research (BWICR) is an organization founded by Danielle Mitchell in 2019 with the mission to educate, empower, support, and help Black women thrive in the clinical research industry. What started as a Facebook group has grown into a significant organization with over 20,000 followers and 10,000 members in its Facebook group.

BWICR aims to address the lack of diversity in both the clinical research workforce and patient populations participating in clinical trials. The organization operates on the principle that increasing diversity among clinical research professionals will naturally lead to more diverse patient participation in clinical trials.

BWICR’s key activities include:

1. Education and awareness: BWICR informs Black women about career opportunities in clinical research, a field often overlooked due to lack of awareness.

2. Networking opportunities: The organization facilitates connections among Black women in the industry through events, conferences, and local chapters.

3. Career support: BWICR offers resume reviews, interview preparation, and a mentorship program to help members advance in their careers.

4. Resources: The organization provides tools and information to help members navigate the clinical research industry.

5. Advocacy: BWICR works to increase the representation of Black women in clinical research and promotes the importance of diverse patient populations in clinical trials.

6. Community building: Through its various platforms, BWICR creates a supportive community where Black women in clinical research can share experiences and advice.

BWICR has been successful in helping over 3,000 Black women secure jobs in the clinical research industry. The organization also hosts an annual conference and has established local chapters to provide more personalized support.

By empowering Black women to enter and excel in clinical research, BWICR aims to improve healthcare outcomes for the Black community by ensuring that clinical trials and resulting treatments are more representative and effective for diverse populations.
