The Pregnancy-Related Mortality Impact of a Total Abortion Ban in the United States

This research estimates, one component of the mortality impact of denying all wanted induced abortions in the United States. In the first year of such a ban, estimated pregnancy-related will increase by 7% and in subsequent years by 21% i. Non-Hispanic Estimated pregnancy-related deaths would increase for all races and ethnicities examined but Black people would experience the greatest increase in deaths (a 33% increase in subsequent years).

Why This Is Important Black maternal mortality is already a serious issue in this country. This study assesses the possible impact of banning abortion on the increasing and already unacceptable number of maternal deaths, especially in the Black maternal community.
